Holi-Festival of colors

HOLI
This is the festival of colors, where people go around and in theory throw colored powder on each other.  In reality, it is powder, water, colored water, spray, and pretty much anything.  It is the celebration of spring, and what better way to do it with crazy color?

We rented a bus and went to Mathura, where the celebration is really famous.  (Click here for more info)  Is is really well known for its Krishna temple celebration, so we went to see the inside where the colors are really crazy.

If you every can come to India to play Holi, do not pass it up.  It was one of the coolest things we have ever done. This town was absolutely crazy, wild, and a total blast.  Yes we rode in a bus 2 hours each way for 30 minutes of fun.  Yes it was worth it and I would totally do it again.

First, the before picture:

Below are some pictures from around town

Sweet kids who came to play Holi with us.

Here is Holi for the adults. They are selling bags of color to throw.

We stopped in a restaurant to wash out some eyes, thanks to the guy with white on his face and blue hat. thanks random guy!

Waterguns-the toy of children all over the world!

Our group walking through town to get to the temple
Some of us made it to the temple, but more on that later...

Monica's face in this pretty much sums up the surprise you feel getting covered in color.  Remember as you are watching these photos that her shirt started white.

Our friend Joon who lost the lense to her glasses.

This is when we stopped to take a break after walking about 15 minutes.  Oh ladies and gentlemen, you haven't seen anything yet.

Me. Monica, and Sam runing from the color.  I am going for Umpa Lumpa, Monica for Smurf.  Sam still isn't sure.

Sam in goggles and showercap

Sandip looking like a total thug!

so colorful

This is when it was time to go-too much color in the eyes.

Don't I look like someone who would be a street performer?

So does Sandip.

Magically symmetrical blue.

Regroup, some going in for round two

Ok, so we regrouped at the bus.  Actually, it was pretty intense-turns out people just go nuts and as noted, one of our group got color in the eye so we turned back.  Meanwhile, the whole point was to go to the temple....

Some of us wanted to go in for round two to see the temple. Including me of course.  Both Sandip and Chris deemed it "too dangerous" for women.  So Monica and I sadly stayed behind  I still say we would have been ok, but all the men went and said no way.  Even the old aunties were getting totally coated in color like crazy.  Here are the pictures they got in the temple:

So much more soaked after their experience.

In the bus on the way back

Strike a Bollywood Holi pose!

Goodbye Holi
Clean and having pizza on our patio!  Thank you Holi for a once in a lifetime experience!
